Wendy Castellanos- Flamenco Dancer & Choreographer
Wendy Castellanos is a versatile dancer and choreographer with Flamenco, Classical, Modern/Contemporary, Jazz, and Latin Dance training. She is a graduate of UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures where she studied dance and multi-disciplinary stage production. Wendy has taken her Flamenco studies abroad and has spent some time traveling throughout Spain, studying in Madrid, in Sevilla and in Granada.
Wendy has performed in the most prominent Flamenco Tablaos, or venues in the city such as the legendary Fountain Theater as part of their Forever Flamenco series, the historic El Cid, Café Sevilla, and Tapas, alongside LA's premier Flamenco musicians and dancers. She has also performed with established Classical Spanish and Flamenco dance ensembles, such as The Arte Flamenco Dance Theater from 2004 to 2007, with Mojacar Flamenco in 2006, with the Spanish production of “Battle of the Dance” where she performed Flamenco, Argentine Tango, Classical Spanish Dance and Bollywood in Orange County and at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from 2010-2012, with Flamenco Express, a touring Flamenco show aboard the Princess cruise fleet in 2014, and most recently with renown choreographer and LA Flamenco icon, Roberto Amaral.
From 2006 to 2019, Wendy danced with the Los Angeles Opera Company at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, performing in the Zarzuela “Luisa Fernanda” along side world famous tenor, Placido Domingo, (2006), “Carmen,” (2008, 2013 & 2017), “The Barber of Seville” (2009 and 2015) and "El Gato Montes," (2019), where she had the thrill of learning and performing choreography by the legendary icon of Flamenco, Cristina Hoyos. Her love of the Classical Spanish repertoire has led her to working with Classical music ensembles throughout Southern California. She has choreographed and danced for The Composer Alive Series, which performs “The life of Manuel de Falla.” She has also had the honor of choreographing “El Amor Brujo” for the Grammy Award Winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet for the Laguna Beach Music Festival and for the El Camino College performing arts series at the Marsee Auditorium. Wendy has created the choreography for Ojai Youth Opera's "La Vida Breve." She also had her debut with Opera Santa Barbara where she choreographed and danced for the 2016-2017 season's production of "Carmen." (November, 2016) and "Cunning Little Vixen," (March, 2017).
In 2016 Wendy began to teach in Ventura County. She currently teaches in the City of Ventura at Namba Performing Arts Space.
Wendy's upcoming projects include producing her music and dance series Flamenco in the 805, which serves to promote Flamenco Music, Dance and Culture to new audiences.
